I think I probably played each game about 100 hours on Xbox and another 100 on PC I absolutely adore them. I even enjoyed Left 4 Dead 1’s The Sacrifice more than The Passing. Left 4 Dead 2 does have some amazing levels in Dead Center and Dark Carnival after that it pales in comparison to No Mercy, Dead Air, Blood Harvest and Death Toll, the atmosphere feeling more horror esque than apocolaptic fun time. I’m not a fan of the Jockey or the Charger. Imo the only new special infected I would have apprieciated is the spitter for dealing with camping teams and forcing you to move. I defenitly prefer 1 over 2 and pretty much for everything you’ve said I felt that the balance of infected kade the gameplay a bit tighter. Validate me, debate me, educate me do whatever you have to do, folks. I kind of just need to know if these are weird and/or uninformed opinions about these games and to what extent. I'm fond of elegant simplicity, originality, and tight core game that isn't necessarily going to be vastly improved with mods. But to me by virtue of being a prequel L4D1 gets points for establishing the aesthetic, plus my name actually appears on the movie posters and I can see my body. I mean, L4D2's presentation is at large very, very similar. 'Kill all sons of bitches!' But then again, I kind of like 1's presentation overall better. If there's one thing I unequivocally prefer about 2 it's the FMV intro. Then again, I feel like L4D1's cast is more rounded in terms of personality and I appreciate how grimly subdued the locations in their campaigns are. 2 has the more exciting setpieces and I might prefer its cast slightly. I don't like Chargers, and the other new specials I could take or leave.Īs for the world, I'm more conflicted. But the thing is that sometimes puts me at a disadvantage since melee weapons are so powerful.

It's cool to swing away hordes, but the shooting in Source just feels better to me I'd rather be shooting a gun. I don't really care for a lot of the new guns in 2, and melee I can take or leave. I think it's the simplicity in the gameplay I prefer the most. From what I can gather in some cursory internet searching maybe not, but the broader consensus seems to suggest I could be. The proper first, not the campaigns ported into 2. I've never played a ton of versus either. I'm a pretty casual fan of these games and I haven't played them in years. Started playing these again as part of celebrating my favorite season of the year.
